Leonia schools report HIB self-assessment scores; all buildings meet state standard

Acting Superintendent Dr. Karamanos told the board that the district submitted its Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) self-assessment results for the 2023-24 school year and that the state certified the reported scores.
Under the state rubric (a maximum score of 78, where 52 indicates meeting requirements), the district reported Atlantic School (ACS) scored 63 out of 78; Leonia Middle School (LMS) scored 69 out of 78; and Leonia High School (LHS) scored 55 out of 78. Dr. Karamanos said the scores indicate all three schools meet or exceed the HIB requirements.
She said the district updated its website with the HIB results and a guidance document for community members seeing the scores for the first time. During discussion, a board member asked what “inconclusive” means on an individual HIB report; Dr. Karamanos explained "that means that we could not determine if it was or wasn't a HIB. There was no evidence to show either way." The board clarified that inconclusive investigations are closed without finding for or against HIB.
No policy changes were adopted at the meeting; the report was informational and reflected state certification of the previously presented self-assessments.
