Courtney Train, executive director of the German Village Society, told the commission the society surveyed 100 members about the city's enhanced meter project. "60% of those had a great experience satisfactory about the enhanced meters...40%, however, had concerns about the installation process and the historic materials, historic brick, the material of the meter itself, the vinyl, the color, the aesthetic of the material of the meter," Train said.
Train said the society shared the survey and a report with the commission, City Councilors and the Water and Power team and is advocating for an approved paint list for meters so paint choices could be administratively approved by the City's Historic Preservation Office (HPO) rather than requiring a Certificate of Appropriateness each time. "So we're looking for a way to streamline that and create efficiency," Train said.
Train said the society had a meeting scheduled with the city's historic-preservation staff that was canceled Sept. 11 and that the organization seeks a collaborative relationship with the city's HPO. The commission took the comment and indicated staff would add the topic to a future agenda for follow up.
