Lawndale Elementary School District staff announced that the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) named the district’s social worker, Dr. Maria Aguilar, as County Social Worker of the Year.
Superintendent D. Castro said the honor was presented during a surprise visit coordinated by district leaders; a formal award ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 24 and the district will share details with the board. Castro credited district social-work leadership, mentorship and intern programs for supporting families and students and said a short news clip of the surprise is on the district website.
Trustees congratulated the district and said they looked forward to ceremony details. No board action was required.
