The Board of Public Works and Safety on Oct. 1 authorized moving forward with demolition of the structure at 206 West Broadway and approved advertising for demolition bids. Chelsea Matlock, office manager at Building and Code Services, told the board the office began the demolition process on April 15, 2024, and that the property has been written up and maintained since February 2014. Matlock said inspectors determined the structure needs demolition due to unsafe conditions and “harboring animals,” and that all parties associated with the property were notified of a final hearing; she said the city had not received any response from the property owner. The board approved a motion to proceed and to advertise for demolition bids, with bids due back by Nov. 5 before 10 a.m., the memo on file said. The board did not state a demolition contractor at this meeting; the item was limited to authorizing the demolition process and advertising for bids.
