Sierra Vista’s National Night Out is scheduled for Oct. 7 from 5–8 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, organizers said. The annual community event will feature law-enforcement displays, demonstrations and family activities.
Corporal Scott Borgstead said demonstrations will include canine demonstrations and a firefighter gear-donning demonstration that invites audience volunteers. “We’ve got a couple of helicopters coming in,” he said, and Border Patrol will bring mounted units. Organizers also said the sheriff’s office helicopter — recently repainted with new logos — will be present.
Food vendors will sell hot dogs, chips and soda for $1 each; proceeds from food sales go to the Sierra Vista Police Officers Association’s Christmas with a Cop program and Cochise County’s Shop with a Cop, Borgstead said. The event will also include a haunted-house attraction run by the FOP lodge, Star Wars Legion appearances, and a large safety display provided by Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative.
Organizers encouraged families to arrive early for helicopter activity and demonstrations and said the event is intended to provide a positive, non-emergency interaction between the public and first responders.
