Sierra Vista PD’s Bearcat Pull set for Oct. 26 to raise funds for Special Olympics Arizona

The Sierra Vista Police Department will host its 19th annual Bearcat Pull on Oct. 26, a fundraiser for Special Olympics Arizona. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.; the event starts at 9 a.m.
“Each team gets two chances to pull it 25 feet,” said Trish Harmon of the Sierra Vista Police Department, describing the Bearcat — the department’s 17,500-pound SWAT vehicle. Teams compete in men’s, women’s, coed and Ironman (five-person) divisions; Special Olympics athletes also participate.
Harmon said early registration closes this Sunday for teams that want event shirts. The pull has historically raised roughly $10,000–$15,000, she said, and proceeds go to Special Olympics Arizona. The department is also debuting a new event shirt designed by an animal-control officer; this year’s color was selected by Special Olympics athletes.
To register, Harmon said the public can contact Sierra Vista dispatch or the police department at (520) 452-7500 and be connected to her. Organizers encouraged community teams, law enforcement units and spectators to attend.
