Mount Pleasant board grants tenure, approves multiple personnel hires and coaches

The Mount Pleasant School Board on Oct. 21 granted tenure to two teachers and approved a series of personnel hires and volunteer assignments, the board said during its regular meeting.

The board approved tenure for Nicole Wedge and Gary Gray; the motion to grant tenure was moved by Board member Loomis and seconded by Board member Brooks and carried by voice vote. The board presented a certificate to Gary Gray during the meeting.

Board members also approved mentor-teacher assignments (Holly Wilson for Nico Disso and Nicole Mikanak for Joe Lascher), the hiring of a school police officer (Ryan Mates), two support personnel nurses, and multiple athletics staffing items including a junior high wrestling assistant coach (Connor Johnson) and a junior high wrestling volunteer coach (Don Amant). The board approved a contract listed as “BSN varsity rewards” and a cooperative agreement termination with Greensburg Central Catholic related to athletics (see separate article on the cooperative agreement).

Board President called each personnel item by agenda number, motions were made and seconded as noted on the record, and each item passed on voice votes with no recorded negatives during the public portions of the meeting.

The personnel approvals were routine on the board’s consent agenda; no extended debate or public comment on individual hires was recorded during the meeting.

The board also recognized students of the month for grades seven through 12 during the session and received brief committee reports before taking personnel actions.
