Sunbury — Candidate Molly Snodgrass introduced her campaign for the Big Walnut Board of Education to City of Sunbury council on Oct. 1, outlining her background and priorities ahead of the November election.
Snodgrass, who lives at 16001 Lewis Road in Harlem Township and identified herself as a candidate for the Nov. election, said she has a degree in chemical engineering and works at Abbott Nutrition as a contract manufacturing manager, where she said she negotiates and manages supplier contracts.
Her priorities, she told council, include increasing board outreach and community collaboration with townships and municipalities that make up the Big Walnut district, and updating the district’s strategic plan (last completed as Vision 2020). “Vision 2020 is 5 years ago. We've had a complete change in administration since then,” Snodgrass said, and she said she would champion an updated strategic plan with actionable goals if elected.
On a policy question from a councilmember about use of school bathrooms and athletic teams, Snodgrass said state law governs those matters. “The interesting thing about that is my opinion on it is completely irrelevant because school the state of Ohio has actually passed laws that address those issues,” she said, referring to 2024 legislation the candidate said requires participation aligned with sex assigned at birth for sports and facilities.
Snodgrass invited residents to a candidate forum scheduled for Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the municipal building.
What happens next: Snodgrass will continue her campaign through the Nov. election; interested residents can attend the Oct. 7 forum.
