During the Sept. 15 work session, the Limestone County Commission authorized county staff to submit a homeland-security grant application on behalf of the sheriff’s office for mobile scanners, fingerprinting and photo units.
County staff said the grant amount is $99,801 and requires no local match. The chairman told commissioners the application had to be submitted by Oct. 1 and that staff would submit it; he said the grant period would be retroactive to Sept. 30 if awarded.
“This is just for a grant for equipment for the sheriff’s office,” the chairman said while describing the request. He added that because the grant required submission by Oct. 1, staff should file the application even if formal approval would be ratified later.
The transcript records no contract award because the item under discussion was an application. No award or purchase decision was recorded; any purchases would depend on the grant being awarded. The county noted there is no required local match in the application as presented in the work session.
Next steps: staff submitted the application by the Oct. 1 deadline as directed; any further action — acceptance of the grant, procurement or equipment installation — would be subject to subsequent commission approvals and the grant award process.
