Council approves hire of service-department worker with conditional pay increase upon CDL completion

The Village Council approved an ordinance appointing Brian Geisty as a full-time service department employee, setting a starting pay rate of $25 per hour and an automatic increase to $26 per hour after the employee obtains a commercial driver’s license (CDL-A).

The ordinance (2025-22) states the appointment is effective in October 2025 and authorizes the fiscal officer to take necessary steps to finalize the hire. It also included an emergency clause declaring the measure necessary for the public peace, health, safety, convenience and welfare and stated the ordinance shall take effect at the earliest date allowable by law.

Council discussion confirmed benefit eligibility per full-time employee policies and established that further pay adjustments may be considered at the council’s discretion after the CDL and any additional benchmarks were met. The ordinance was presented for three readings; the transcript records a third and final reading by title and shows the council moving to adopt the ordinance.

Staff were instructed to complete any administrative steps required to finalize the appointment, including personnel paperwork and updating payroll records.
