Page County supervisors discussed an abatement request from Clarendon Regional Health Center for two parcels: a house used to house doctors and the Goldenrod Manor property that previously functioned as a nursing home. County staff reported taxes had already been paid for the current year and that the hospital is a municipal entity that should be tax-exempt going forward.
A county official told the board the reimbursement requested for taxes already paid was $20,416 for Goldenrod Manor and $3,622 for the house, a combined total of $24,038. A supervisor said the assessor’s office must make the properties tax-exempt going forward and that the normal exemption or abatement processes should be followed before any reimbursement is decided. “They need to go through the regular exemption process and then bring it back to us after that,” one supervisor said.
Board members agreed to consult with the assessor and the treasurer before taking any final action on reimbursement. The transcript records a staff suggestion to table the matter until the county can confirm whether the hospital’s municipal status removes the properties from future tax rolls and whether the paid taxes are eligible for reimbursement under county procedures.
No formal vote to reimburse the hospital was recorded in the meeting; the item was tabled for follow-up with the assessor and treasurer.
