Danielle Sexton, Inyo County clerk‑recorder and registrar of voters, briefed the board Oct. 7 on the upcoming statewide special election scheduled for Nov. 4. Sexton said ballots were mailed on Oct. 6 to active registered voters and reminded residents of voter services available on the county website (elections.inyocounty.us), including a ballot‑status confirmation tool and a polling‑place lookup by address.
Sexton said the county’s in‑person voting locations will include Statham Hall in Lone Pine, the downstairs courtroom in Independence, Big Pine Town Hall, and the Barlow‑Layton Gym in Bishop; a secondary small location will be the Bishop Senior Center. She emphasized that any Inyo County voter may vote at any county location but that doing so may increase wait times at non‑designated sites.
Sexton urged voters who wish to be certain their ballot is received on time to use official county mail‑ballot drop boxes, which county staff pick up and process on Election Day. She said the U.S. Postal Service is not guaranteeing postmarks on election‑day mail and that a ballot placed in a USPS drop box may not be postmarked the same day it is dropped off; voters who want certainty should either hand their ballot to county elections staff for a dated postmark or use an official county drop box.
The clerk also reported the county had received $220,000 from the state to reimburse election costs and said the county estimated total election costs were far higher statewide. Sexton invited questions; supervisors asked about volunteer staffing and she said the county had sufficient volunteer support for polling sites.
Ending
Sexton asked residents to check the county elections site for locations and ballot status, attend the public logical accuracy test scheduled Oct. 11 at 1 p.m., and use official county drop boxes for timely ballot delivery.
