The Oroville City Council approved a one-year extension to the operating lease for the Oroville Convention Center with the Feather River Recreation and Park District on Oct. 7, moving the monthly rate from $2,500 to $2,575.
City staff described the extension as the second year of a multi-step arrangement intended to keep the downtown facility occupied and active. The council previously directed staff to find a solution that kept the venue in steady use; staff told the council the arrangement has produced near-nightly activity and that the YMCA and other groups are using the space.
“It's worked out great for the city, having the facility busy all the time,” a city staff speaker said. A representative from Feather River Recreation and Park District (Wilson) told the council the district’s programming now includes youth volleyball four nights a week, adult programming and planned winter basketball, and that the district looks forward to a long-term partnership.
The resolution sets the new monthly rate of $2,575 from Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026, reflecting a 3% increase from the prior year. The council adopted the resolution by roll call; the clerk recorded the item as passed, 6–1.
Council members praised the facility’s role as a downtown activity hub and said they hope the arrangement continues to support a vibrant downtown economy.
