During the Oct. 8 meeting, recreation staff updated the commission on several park projects and community outreach efforts.
Recreation Manager Blethon said the city has received an initial concept plan draft for Kavanaugh Park from the design consultant and scheduled the next outreach meeting for Oct. 29 at El Toro Library. “The next outreach meeting is gonna be October 29 at El Toro Library,” Blethon told commissioners.
Staff also briefed the commission on a Veterans Park brick program. Blethon reported there are 268 available brick locations under the tree in the monument area; 46 bricks had been purchased and staff planned an unveiling ceremony on Nov. 10 at noon. Blethon said the deadline to purchase a brick was Sept. 30 and that staff would send program details and invitations via email.
On the skate‑park project, commissioners were told the outreach contractor has been selected and that the contract is either completed or awaiting signature; outreach is expected to begin in the next couple of months. “They have picked out somebody to do their outreach. That contract is, right now, it's either completed or it's in the queue for Deborah to sign,” Blethon said.
Discussion versus action: the items were informational updates; no formal votes or approvals were taken. Commissioners expressed support for outreach and noted strong resident turnout at previous feedback sessions.
Looking ahead: staff will proceed with the Kavanaugh Park outreach on Oct. 29, will publicize the Veterans Park unveiling on Nov. 10, and will begin skate‑park outreach once the consultant contract is finalized.
