The San Luis City Council voted to accept $50,000 in highway-safety grants to boost impaired-driving enforcement, occupant-protection awareness and selective traffic enforcement.
Lieutenant Damian Miller of the San Luis Police Department told the council the department “has been awarded a total of $50,000 to support additional materials, overtime, and employee related expenses to enhance enforcement for driving under the influence, DUI, traffic enforcement, occupant protection throughout the city of San Luis.” He said the awards are split into $15,000 for impaired-driving enforcement, $15,000 for occupant-protection awareness and $20,000 for the selective traffic enforcement project.
The grant agreements referenced in the agenda were identified as highway safety contracts 2026-AL-016, 2026-PTS-062 and 2026-405B-012 with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. No conditions or contingencies were reported at the meeting.
Council moved and seconded a motion to approve adoption of Order No. 2025-12 authorizing the police department to accept the funding; the motion passed on a voice vote.
The council did not record a roll-call vote breakdown in the public minutes; the meeting transcript records only an affirmative voice vote. No speakers opposed the acceptance during the item and no further discussion was requested.
The action implements state grant funding for local traffic-safety initiatives; staff from the police department will administer the awarded funds under the specified contracts.
