Attorney previews proposed ordinance amendment for wine market on Marietta Square

An attorney representing Deep Roots Wine Bar delivered a public comment on Oct. 8 previewing a proposed ordinance amendment the business plans to ask the council to consider on Oct. 28.
Riviera Burris said the client intends to open a wine market and wine bar on Marietta Square and will apply for a package (retail) license with ancillary limited on-premise consumption. Burris said the proposal would allow package wine stores that offer on-premise wine consumption to sell a small percentage of beer for on-site consumption — she suggested a limit of about 10 percent or less of sales devoted to beer.
Burris said the business operates similar locations in Chamblee and Roswell and that the amendment would give wine markets a modest additional offering to attract customers while keeping primary retail wine sales intact. She asked the council to place the item on the Oct. 28 agenda for further discussion.
No council action was taken Oct. 8; the presentation was a public comment previewing the proposed ordinance amendment. The council and staff will address any formal text, legal review, and public hearing requirements if the item is scheduled for consideration later this month.
