Ryan, Parks staff, told the City of Sandusky Parks & Recreation Advisory Board that a delay in delivery of steel components is the primary hold-up on a new bridge and related ramp at the municipal golf course.
"It's basically the material that the steel beams...those are there have not been delivered yet," Ryan said. "Once those get delivered, things are gonna move pretty quickly." He said crews have already paved the ramp and most other materials are on site.
The creek-restoration project serving the course is currently out to bid with Erie Soil and Water, and Ryan said he expected the bids to be awarded "in the next week or so," with work possibly starting in October or November. He warned that concurrent construction could require limiting golfing during portions of the work: "When there's a lot of construction going on, there could be some liability concerns...so we'll have to revisit that once they actually start the project."
Staff also reported operational improvements to the course's irrigation system after contracting Hugo Irrigation of Toledo. The company repaired multiple leaks and installed satellite controls that allow sprinklers to run remotely; some sprinkler heads still need maintenance. Rounds played and cart rentals are running below last year's levels, Ryan said, but he described current weather as favorable for increasing play in the coming weeks.
No formal motion or vote was recorded on these items during the meeting. Board members asked staff to monitor delivery and construction timing and to return with recommendations if play restrictions are needed.
Planning and procurement items remain subject to contractor schedules and bid awards.
