San Antonio staff reports three emergency demolitions; council not required to act

City staff reported three structures demolished after fires and said no action by the Construction Council was required under City Code Chapter 6.
City of San Antonio development services staff told the Construction Council on Oct. 9, 2025, that three structures were demolished under emergency authority after separate fires and that the demolitions do not require further council action.
The staff presentation, given during the Development Services report, listed emergency demolitions at 326 Mount Polure Drive (District 7), 2038 Lawn Street (District 5) and 244 Hertz Drive (District 1). According to staff, the Mount Polure structure was removed on Sept. 16 following an Sept. 8 fire; the Lawn Street structure was removed after an Sept. 24 fire; and the Hertz Drive structure was demolished Sept. 26 for extensive fire damage.
Staff showed before-and-after photographs and said the demolitions were carried out under the city’s emergency procedures. The presentation repeated that, under City Code Chapter 6, no further action by the council is required for emergency demolitions of this type. No council member asked questions about the emergency demolitions during the report.
The council then proceeded to scheduled individual dangerous-structure cases, which did require formal hearings and votes.
