Liz, representing the Arts Corridor committee, outlined a proposal to rebrand the Arts Corridor into six “Ivins Community Arts Districts” to broaden participation beyond Center Street. The proposed districts are Heritage, Central (downtown), Art Village, Tuacon, Unity and Resort. Liz and other commissioners said the district concept aims to create neighborhood identity, maps and signage and to spur localized projects in each district.
The district proposal ties into several initiatives the committee is developing. Liz said the primary Arts Corridor project at present is a pedestrian crosswalk design being developed with Utah Tech; the commission expects to see an initial pass of designs in mid-October and hopes to bring a final design to the commission for a vote by the end of the semester. Liz said the price range for the crosswalk is in the $25,000 to $30,000 ballpark, but that the final cost will depend on the design chosen.
Daphne and other commissioners expressed support for rebranding to increase citywide engagement; commissioners suggested district-specific public art and performing arts programming as ways to foster local ownership. Daphne and Kathy agreed to work on an addendum to the Arts Master Plan reflecting these ideas and to solicit input from all commissioners before the next meeting.
Commissioners also discussed wrapping additional utility boxes as part of the It's a Wrap program and securing neighborhood sponsorships for specific boxes. No formal vote was recorded on the rebranding at the meeting; commissioners reported consensus to proceed with planning and to seek council consideration as needed.
