Ryan Livergood, executive director of the Warren-Newport Public Library, told the Village of Gurney board on Sept. 29 that the library has added a Library of Things collection, joined the CCS shared catalog, expanded digital subscriptions and is planning a multi-year renovation focused on youth and adult spaces.
Livergood described the Library of Things as a circulating collection that includes hotspots, a Nintendo Switch, telescopes and crafting equipment such as Cricut machines. He said the library joined CCS to share resources with about 32 libraries and that digital collections (Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, PressReader) continue to grow in demand.
New digital subscriptions include remote access to the New York Times and the Washington Post; other resources available with a library card include ancestry.com (in-library access), consumer reports and online learning portals such as Udemy. The director highlighted “tutor time,” a one-on-one technology help service, and the Workshop makerspace, which includes 3-D printers and Cricut equipment.
Livergood said the library has begun a “library reimagined” renovation process to update youth and adult areas; he showed early renderings of expanded interactive youth space called Cocos Cove and new adult seating. He said the project schedule targets construction in 2026 after planning and stakeholder meetings.
The presentation was informational; no formal village funding request was made at the meeting.
