The Davis School District board approved a contract to replace aging refrigeration equipment at the district's Freeport Center, awarding the work to Hogan and Associates for $1,000,009.54.
Business administrator Tim Leffel outlined a multi-year plan to replace failing freezer and refrigeration equipment that supports storage of meal program food at the Freeport Center. "We store millions of dollars of food in our freezers out there. And the equipment that we have out there is, as old as I am in some places," Leffel said, noting parts are increasingly unavailable and replacements are needed to avoid system failures.
The approved work is the second phase of a three-part upgrade. Leffel said the district is using fund-balance resources to complete the project in stages. The awarded contract covers renovations on the north end of the G4 freezer.
A motion to approve Hogan and Associates' contract was made by a trustee, seconded, and approved by the board. Staff said the procurement follows the district's long-term plan to replace refrigeration over multiple years to ensure continuity of food-service operations.
