Community Corrections will submit biennial plan proposing continued supervision amid uncertainty over state funding cuts

Robert, the county Community Corrections director, told commissioners he will present the county’s biennial plan to the state after obtaining approval from the county’s oversight group. The plan proposes continuing operations with available county funding while the state considers potential spending cuts.
Robert said the Department of Corrections has asked local agencies to prepare contingency cuts but that the department has also said the county’s IGA funding should not be affected; instead, the state asked for potential reductions to discretionary programs. On juvenile services, Robert told the Board that custody counts are down and that juvenile placements have fallen significantly compared with the prior year.
Robert said he and the district attorney agreed on criteria for supervising unfunded misdemeanor cases if the state reduces funding: the case must meet specific requirements such as victim risk or public-safety concerns. He said the county will propose to continue supervising unfunded cases as needed but acknowledged the state could change expectations.
