During the Sept. 29 board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Ledbetter and guests highlighted a community-education grant, a state recognition for Pelham Ridge Elementary and district staff accomplishments.
State Representative Pascal visited the meeting to present a community education grant check to the district and to thank staff for their work. Pascal said he aims to "bring your tax dollars back to the community" and encouraged board members to contact him with any needs. The district's superintendent publicly thanked Pascal and noted another check had been dropped off by Senator April Weaver.
The superintendent announced that Pelham Ridge Elementary was chosen as the district's first semiquincentennial school; staff credited fifth-grade history teachers for their effort in applying for the recognition. The semiquincentennial designation is part of statewide commemorations; the district said Pelham Ridge will represent Pelham City Schools in that program.
The superintendent also recognized Floyd Collins, who was chosen as a director for the Alabama Association of Prevention, Attendance and Support Services (CLASS), and Dr. Janie Clay, who was selected to present at a national conference for child nutrition/food-service providers in Nashville.
Board members offered thanks to presenters and praised staff and students for ongoing work and school culture improvements. The items were recognitions and presentations; no board action was recorded other than acceptance of the grant presentation and public thanks.
