The Pelham City Schools Board of Education approved multiple personnel items during the Sept. 29 meeting, including two resignations and four hires, and reviewed a new job description for a combined school bus trainer/utility-worker role.
Kim Kuehl, the district personnel presenter, recommended approval of two resignations: one employee leaving to stay home with a new infant and another accepting a position with a different school system. "At this time, I recommend that you approve the resignation of both of these 2 employees," Kuehl told the board. The board moved, seconded and approved the resignations by voice vote; the transcript records an "Aye" with no roll-call recorded.
Kuehl also presented four employment recommendations for approval: two bus drivers (pending passing scores on the state bus-driving test), an occupational therapist and a special-education teacher. Kuehl noted that the two bus-driver candidates were scheduled to take the required test soon and that staff were confident in their prospects. The board approved the four hires by voice vote.
The board approved another set of four personnel actions later in the meeting: rescinding an employment, approving a voluntary transfer, approving after-school tutors for elementary programs, and approving academic supplements. During questions on the tutors, a board member confirmed the tutors are district teachers and that they meet the district's qualifications. The board approved those four items by voice vote.
On a separate personnel matter, staff presented a draft job description for a "school bus trainer/utility worker." Kuehl explained the duties are already being performed by a current employee and that this is a new formal position to combine those responsibilities. The board discussed whether the position constituted new employment or a restructuring; staff said the position is new in title and contract but the duties are already being carried out. The job description was presented for review and is scheduled for vote at the next board meeting; the transcript records no final vote on the job description that evening.
No individual votes by name were recorded in the transcript; approvals were taken by voice with unanimous "Aye" responses and no recorded opposition.
