Resident voices concern about proposed data-center rezoning north of New Carlisle

I can do that simple math," Caruso said, criticizing a presentation to the Area Plan Commission that described a 300-acre development with two phases and suggested the number of data shells was "approximately 14." Caruso said that inconsistency signaled a potential for sprawl beyond the stated footprint and urged the county to stop rezoning agricultural property to industrial in the township and New Carlisle.
Caruso asked commissioners to "talk to a few people, behind the scenes" about the APC hearing and said residents had little recourse if they did not raise concerns during the proceedings. His remarks did not prompt formal action by the commissioners during the Sept. 23 meeting.
The Area Plan Commission item Caruso referenced was part of a public-review process; commissioners at this meeting did not take action on rezoning or land-use rules. The comments were entered into the meeting record during public comment.
