SPEEDWAY, Ind. — The Speedway Town Council on Oct. 8 approved a $7,000 proposal from Wessler Engineering to prepare a risk resilience assessment and emergency response plans covering the town’s water assets.
Town Manager Grama Kleinheins told the council the work is required biannually by the federal government and will focus on water-specific infrastructure. "This will include items like access, perimeter check, equipment, manufacturing, cybersecurity, access, etcetera. All of those types of things will be looked at and included in this assessment. I think that's a really good price for what they actually will be doing for us," Kleinheins said.
Kleinheins said the study will examine pump stations, wells and other major water assets and assess responses to events such as a major water main break. Council President Nick Sturgeon called for a vote; the motion passed 3-0.
The council gave no additional conditions at the meeting. Kleinheins indicated the assessment will be scoped to the town’s water system and will not include smaller items such as individual hydrants. Next steps include executing the contract with Wessler Engineering and scheduling the assessment work.
The approval was taken as a routine contract authorization when it appeared on the special session agenda; council members gave no further direction during the item and there was no public comment on the matter.
