Board approves two $1,500 outdoor‑learning mini‑grant applications for elementary and middle school

Shelly Mogul, director of curriculum, assessment and instruction, and school administrators described proposed uses: Carrie Ricker Elementary would purchase picnic tables and Project Learning Tree curricular materials to support regular outdoor lessons, and Oak Hill Middle School would buy class sets of durable outdoor seating (bag chairs) and field guides or magnifying equipment to support science and outdoor lessons. Mogul emphasized the grants are intended for materials that enable teachers to take students outside for authentic learning experiences and are not intended as expensive ongoing obligations.
Board members noted the value of leveraging free resources from state agencies such as Inland Fisheries & Wildlife and suggested coordination with those agencies for visits and supplementary materials.
The motions to approve each grant application passed unanimously.
