The program is structured in three tiers. Tier 1 yields a 5% reduction; Tier 2, described during the meeting, would yield about a 7.5% discount but carries additional requirements including responding to identified deficiencies within 90 days; Tier 3 would require fuller leadership engagement on safety committees and return-to-work policies and would yield a 10% discount if attained. Gavin Pat, identified in the meeting as a project manager, was credited with bringing the program to the board.
Board members asked how the program is enforced and verified. Vice Chair Bondo asked whether the discount is applied to buildings or employees and whether the district undergoes audits. Staff answered that representatives from MMA conduct assessments and walk-throughs with HR and facilities staff as part of the review process.
Chair Bear Lentz moved to waive a second read and proceed to authorize enrollment; the motion passed on a unanimous voice and roll-call vote. Doctor Warren called the roll during the final approval; all listed board members and student representatives answered yes. The board recorded its approval to submit enrollment paperwork to MMA and to pursue higher tiers over time.
Next steps include submitting the enrollment materials to MMA and coordinating the walk-throughs and documentation MMA requires. Staff said some Tier 2 and Tier 3 requirements will require additional work on timelines and leadership involvement before the district pursues those higher discounts.
