Mayor Steve Patterson gave the city's fall leaf-collection schedule and repeated the city's Halloween safety guidance during the weekly update. City crews will begin leaf pickup in Area 1 (Far East neighborhood and Columbus Road/Near East) Oct. 13–17; Area 2 (West Side, Highland, Congress, University Estates, Uptown) Oct. 20–25; and Area 3 (South Side, Old Coach Blackburn) later in November into early December. Patterson said Area 1 pickup will wrap up around Thanksgiving week, Area 2 around Dec. 1–5, and Area 3 around Dec. 8–12. He described the program as free and asked residents to rake leaves to the curb. On Halloween, Patterson said neighborhood trick-or-treating will take place on Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. He reiterated safety guidance: keep lights on if handing out candy, make costumes visible (reflective tape or flashlights), watch for traffic in heavily trick-or-treated neighborhoods, and that parents or guardians must accompany children under 12. The mayor also suggested nonfood treats as alternatives and urged caution in vehicle areas. These were announcements and safety reminders; no ordinance change or new city regulation was announced in the broadcast.
