County staff told the Morrow County Board of Commissioners that an online auction held Monday registered 32 bidders and raised just under $18,000 for county property that had been declared surplus.
Jamie, a county staff member who oversaw the event, told commissioners, “We did sell about, like, 93% of our contents,” and said the sale took nearly two hours with additional time required to remove items from the facility.
The report said approximately 7% of items did not sell and will likely be discarded, and staff described follow-up work to collect sold items. The audio record includes concerns about a small number of items that may have been removed without payment or not properly checked off during pickup. Staff asked county personnel to review auction paperwork to confirm whether certain items were paid for and collected.
Why it matters: proceeds from disposed county property offset costs or return funds to county accounts; unclaimed or missing items raise accountability and inventory-control questions for county operations.
Additional details: staff acknowledged some items remained to be picked up by winning bidders and noted one instance where a buyer reportedly left behind a toolbox and a battery. Staff asked colleagues to verify receipts and pickup logs to resolve discrepancies.
Next steps: county staff will review auction records and contact bidders with outstanding pickups; items confirmed unsold or abandoned will be handled per the county’s surplus property procedures.
