Warren County commissioners approved additional appropriations on Monday to cover shortfalls in Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and jail medical accounts, citing staffing gaps and unplanned medical transports as drivers of the jail expenses.
County staff said EMA needs an additional $14,001.55 from rainy‑day funds to correct a clerical error in prior minutes and to fund operations, and the jail needs an additional $14,503.34 to cover extra medical costs this year. Jail staff described recent months as unusual, with more inmates needing offsite ER care and more nursing coverage required; the jail has been short on nursing hours and has filled gaps with overtime and additional transports.
Commissioners moved and seconded the appropriations; the motions carried on voice votes. Staff said they will monitor medical and staffing levels and seek longer‑term options, including evaluation of the current medical provider and costs for next year’s budget.
