Superintendent reports ongoing tennis-court construction, smoother transportation and fast-turnaround state assessments

Superintendent Jake Legman reported Sept. 22 that the district is managing several operational items as the school year begins: tennis-court replacement work at the high school is under way and will likely continue into next summer, transportation operations have improved with fewer late dismissals, and the district has started its assessment window using the NWEA-based state assessment.
Legman described the tennis-court work as a joint project with the city and said residents should expect intermittent disruptions related to construction until next summer. On transportation he said the start of the year has seen fewer late dismissals and that staff continue to fine-tune routes and processes.
On assessments Legman explained the state’s move to the NWEA platform provides much faster turnaround of results than older paper-based assessments: “One of the reasons why the state switched to the NWEA as the state assessment is because of the immediacy with the results,” he said, adding that some state assessments (science, alternate assessments and multilingual-learner assessments) have different testing windows that run later in the year.
