Superintendent Dr. McDowell told the Collingswood board the district’s June enrollment increased from 267 in 2024 to 273 in June 2025. She reported the district saw “significant improvements in math proficiency” at the elementary, middle and high school levels after making math a systemwide focus.
Dr. McDowell described steps taken this summer and during the prior year: an administrative retreat to set academic goals, redistribution of continuous improvement guides and calendars, additional instructional time for a fifth‑grade cohort and a new universal screener piloted this year that staff said produced more accurate information for teachers. “We made math a focus, and they got it done,” she said, and added that the data supporting the gains will be presented publicly in early October.
Opening dates and staff‑planning milestones were also announced: staff opening day is Sept. 2 and the first day of student attendance was listed on the agenda as Sept. 4 (an early dismissal). Dr. McDowell said the leadership team will use opening day to set the academic agenda and emphasize how school culture supports academics.
