Parks staff report repairs, new signage and community events in monthly update

At its Aug. 6 meeting the Sunbury City Parks and Recreation Committee received a monthly operations update from staff covering maintenance, signage and recent community events.
Staff reported that Brand Tangibles provided Kinslow disc golf signs donated by Mr. Linton and that the city’s service team installed the signs at no cost to the city. The service team repaired storm damage to the shelter roof at General Rosecrans shelter and installed two additional permanent trash cans due to increased usage. Old Church Park had a tree trimmed near the Lady Liberty statue ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
At the reservoirs, staff added new signage and said it is now easier to find park entrances from Otis Street. The American Legion’s fishing derby drew “over 100 people,” staff said, and July 4 events and the parade had good turnout and no major incidents. Memorial Park recorded three burials in the past month, and concrete repairs were completed on Cherry Street, Columbus Street and the Town Square stairs. Staff also reminded the committee that Sunbury Sizzle is upcoming and that the civic association remains in need of volunteers.
No formal actions were taken; staff thanked the service team for rapid response to storm repairs and said additional signage and trash cans are in place. Committee members acknowledged the high level of park use and the need to monitor maintenance and trash capacity during events.
