Council Member Fuller announced a community pilot meeting to organize an emergency response group for residents, to be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Commons conference room.
Fuller said the volunteer group would operate under the supervision of the fire department and that Fire Chief Hudson is aware of the proposal. “We're putting together a group of ideas tomorrow night, and, hopefully, this will get into more community involvement, that will address disasters and those sorts of things that ... we are more frequently experiencing,” Fuller said.
The announcement was presented as a community-engagement pilot; Fuller said the group would seek to support, not supplant, professional emergency responders. No formal council action or funding was recorded for the pilot at the meeting.
