Chief Information Officer John told the board a major CAMS release in June completed the transition for AO benefits cases from the legacy system and that the next technical focus is migrating AO tax technicians and the office of tax petitions into CAMS.
“We successfully deployed the major release in June with over a dozen enhancements,” John said, and added the agency is evaluating gaps tied to tax-case workflows to provide a firm timeline for completing the migration.
Judge Koutre and other board members discussed how tax petitions differ from regular unemployment or disability benefit appeals because they interface directly with the Employment Development Department (EDD). Judge Koutre said tax petitions require an extra coordination step with EDD, which is why those files are not yet fully migrated.
Board members asked about user feedback and accessibility for parties using the portal. Judge Koutre said the agency meets regularly with advocates, that the advocacy groups provided a list of suggested enhancements, and that many suggested improvements were incorporated in the June release. He also said the agency maintains a Frequently Asked Questions page and a portal comment prompt to gather ongoing user feedback.
The CIO said additional Salesforce developer positions have been posted to increase capacity for enhancements and migrations. Board members and staff discussed planned enhancements such as reminder capabilities (for hearing dates and filing deadlines) and easier representative access to case files; staff said reminders and other portal enhancements are on the agency’s enhancement list and will be prioritized as developer capacity increases.
No formal votes or policy changes were taken at the meeting on CAMS migration.
