Fannin County authorizes $20,960 for Winding Connector gate, $5,500 to repair rec center fence

Fannin County commissioners approved two capital items for parks and recreation maintenance: a timed, electrically powered gate at the Winding Connector access and replacement of a rotted picket fence around electrical equipment at the recreation center.
Park staff said a new connector road and gate are needed at the Tom Boyd/Winding Connector entrance to control access, reduce late-night disturbance and protect park infrastructure. The county requested $20,960 from applicable funds to install the gate, set a power pole and bore underground for an electrical connection; a motion to approve the expenditure was made, seconded and approved.
Separately, staff said a wooden picket fence protecting electrical transformers and open conduit at the rec center has rotted and needs replacement for public safety. Commissioners approved a $5,500 proposal to tear out the rotted fence and install a new six-foot enclosure around the equipment.
Staff indicated the gate work requires approval from the local electric utility and that installation will take several weeks after the county orders the unit.
