The City Council of Chester voted Wednesday to accept a $2,523 grant from the Delaware County Interactive Gaming Revenue Authority and to enter a mutual-aid agreement with the Logan Township Fire Department in Gloucester County, New Jersey.
The council resolution authorizing acceptance of the $2,523 grant—described in the record as funds from the Delaware County Interactive Gaming Revenue Authority, which receives local share funds pursuant to 4 Pa. C.S.A. § 13B.53—directs the Chester Bureau of Fire to use the money for the purchase of smoke detectors. The acceptance was approved unanimously by the council members present.
In a separate resolution the council accepted a mutual-aid and assistance agreement between the Chester Bureau of Fire and the Logan Township Fire Department. The resolution cites Act 93 of 2008, 35 P.S. § 7504, authorizing the Bureau of Fire to contract with nearby municipal corporations or volunteer fire companies for fire protection. The agreement authorizes the parties to provide apparatus and manpower across jurisdictional boundaries as needed during emergencies and allows the mayor and city clerk to execute the agreement on behalf of the city.
Both measures were moved, seconded and approved with recorded yes votes from Gibson Williams, Davis and Deputy Mayor West. Council did not attach additional conditions to the grant acceptance in the meeting record.
