The superintendent presented five district goals that the board will use to track district initiatives and his evaluation, and trustees discussed adding targets for transportation electrification and special education services.
The superintendent said the goals include implementing three major educational initiatives (i-Ready, Core Knowledge Language Arts and EduClimber), reviewing communications work from a communications audit, presenting options for possible redistricting and attendance-zone adjustments and reporting on a districtwide capital project. “Goal 3 is the superintendent will present the board with the potential options for redistricting of our school district and our attendance zones,” the superintendent said.
Trustees asked that transportation planning and the district’s move toward electric school buses be tied to the redistricting work and added to the superintendent’s goals where appropriate. One trustee asked to add language about transportation electrification; another said contractors will need to align with district plans. The superintendent said the district has hired a transportation consultant and cited enrollment-capacity goals: “we want our buildings to be at about 85% capacity,” he said.
The superintendent also described the capital project as a districtwide effort with the figure read into the record: “the 167,500,000 district wide capital project that's going on now.” He told trustees he will present a balanced school budget to the board on April 21.
Board members requested more specificity on Goal 2 (communications) and asked for measurable elements to be added. A trustee proposed adding special education metrics to Goal 1, such as counts of students receiving specific services and outcome measures.
On transportation electrification, the superintendent said contractors are planning and that First Student has begun work in other districts with electric buses; he referenced Rondout as a local example. Trustees discussed dependencies—if a contractor is not aligned, the district risks losing funding tied to electrification timelines.
Trustees placed the superintendent goals on the consent agenda for approval; they discussed scheduling a dedicated session to develop actionable steps and timelines for the goals.
