The Parks and Recreation Commission received a seasonal report Oct. 8 on Gateway RV Park, where staff say sewer piping and pump problems prompted repairs this fall but did not indicate a leach‑field failure.
Eric Breidinger, parks and recreation director, said the park is closed for the season and that assessments indicate the leach field itself appears functional. “Looks like that's not the case. It's more of a piping issue and potentially damaged pipes,” he said, describing planned camera inspections, digging and pipe lowering this fall.
Breidinger told commissioners the department redirected money that had been earmarked for a shade structure to cover expected repair work and added a line in next year’s budget for additional contingencies. He said staff will ask contractors to assess and repair piping this fall and may follow with tiling and other bathroom improvements if repair costs allow.
The commission heard operational data: the park had 40 sold‑out nights this season versus 56 last year, revenue was down roughly 4% and stays declined about 3% (2,242 stays versus 2,304 the previous year). A long‑term average stay (2013–present) reported by campground hosts was about 2.5 days.
Campground hosts and staff also discussed amenities and future capital options, including highway‑noise mitigation, irrigation and regrading with road base and better drainage. Staff said a permanent picnic shelter remains desirable but lower priority than addressing infrastructure and drainage.
No formal action was taken; staff will proceed with fall inspections and repairs and present any needed appropriations to trustees.
