Klamath County to replace assistant road superintendent with foreman, approve overlap hire for new road superintendent

Jeremy Morris, Klamath County public works director, asked the board to approve replacing the assistant road superintendent vacancy with a foreman after the current assistant was promoted to replace a retiring road superintendent. County staff said the swap will save approximately $5,001.76 annually and that the department has budget capacity for the change.
County staff also requested approval to bring on the new road superintendent effective Oct. 1, 2025, while the current director remains on leave through Jan. 7, 2026, creating a temporary period with two road superintendents. Staff reported the three‑month overlap will add about $1,721.81 in salary and benefits and said funds are available to cover the cost. Commissioners approved both items during the administrative meeting.
Board members said they want the department monitored over the next six to 12 months to ensure management capacity during winter months and to assess promotion candidates for the foreman role. No formal amendments or additional external approvals were recorded at the meeting.
