The Clatsop County Human Services Advisory Council voted to refer seven people — three incumbents who had reapplied and four new or returning applicants — to the Board of Commissioners for review and potential appointment.
Council leadership said the seven referrals include the three current members who reapplied, and four applicants the council recommended: Linda Whitney, Miranda Robinson, Kirsten Bergathon and Amber Bowman. The council noted that Amber Bowman had previously served on the council but stepped down earlier because of a conflict while employed at CBH and that the conflict no longer exists.
The council discussed other applications: Joseph Webb withdrew his application for health reasons, and one applicant, Benjamin Gulby, had not responded to outreach and so had not been interviewed. Council members said Nicholas Bowling’s application was not being recommended because, while he had emergency-room nursing and EMT/firefighter experience, the council found he lacked broader experience with mental health and disability systems relevant to the council’s work.
A motion to refer the seven applicants to the Board of Commissioners passed during the meeting; county staff said the Board would take up the referrals in a work session on July 24 and then during a Board meeting on Aug. 14 for final approval.
Council members spoke in support of several applicants; no formal amendments or conditions were attached to the referral motion recorded in the meeting.
