The Brentwood Town Cemetery Trustees said Thursday their department request for the coming budget year is $14,038, a 2.2% increase over last year, and discussed priorities for maintenance and small capital purchases.
Cemetery Superintendent Joyce told trustees the packet they submitted shows a department request totaling $14,038 and that "current year to date" expenditures are just under $10,000. She said the maintenance line was restored to $2,000 after lower spending this year, citing dry conditions and fewer cleanings. Joyce said corner markers, stone cleaning and work at the Poor Farm Cemetery would be candidates for maintenance spending.
Trustees also reviewed operational items that could affect spending: winterizing the well and blowing out water lines (Joyce said she planned to schedule contractors to clear underground lines because previous helpers are temporarily unavailable), and fuel and vehicle costs driven by travel to meetings. Joyce noted the need to reserve funds for wreaths and cemetery markers and said she would prepare a list of desired purchases should money remain in the budget.
Trustees repeated practical timing information: the town budget review was scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14, and trustees said they would be prepared to answer any line-item questions. No new appropriations were adopted at the meeting; trustees discussed priorities they will present during the budget hearing.
Clarifying details: department request $14,038; year-to-date expenditures about $10,000; maintenance restored to $2,000 to account for expected work; corner markers and Poor Farm delineation cited as near-term uses of funds.
