The Brentwood Town Cemetery Trustees voted Thursday to adopt updated roles and responsibilities documents for the cemetery superintendent and for a clerk/bookkeeper, formalizing duties and how the town will handle the functions if two separate positions exist.
Trustee Jillian moved to approve the superintendent roles and responsibilities and Trustee Skip seconded; the board approved the document unanimously, and the superintendent said she would update the posted version to "version 1.1" and publish it on the town website. The superintendent noted she had already incorporated the Brentwood Poor Farm cemetery into the scope of duties.
On a related document, trustees accepted a revised clerk/bookkeeper responsibilities document with a new line clarifying that a bookkeeper "may be paid via an annual stipend per approval of the cemetery trustees." The trustees said the position currently is performed by Superintendent Joyce and that adding the stipend line preserves flexibility if the trustees later appoint a separate clerk or pay a stipend. The bookkeeper document was finalized as "version 1.2" and approved on the record.
Both approvals followed standard motion-and-vote procedure. "So motion, Jillian. Second. Skip. All in favor? Aye," the clerk recorded after the superintendent roles motion; the transcript shows a similar unanimous voice vote for the bookkeeper document.
The documents will be posted under the trustees' documents section of the town website and the superintendent said she would distribute the approved copies to trustees by email. Trustees discussed leaving the new cemetery off the document until the parcel is formally in town ownership to avoid repeated rewrites.
