Comal County commissioners on Oct. 9 approved renewal of the County Choice Silver post‑65 retiree health plan (administered through the Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool) for plan year 2026, and authorized the county judge to sign the renewal agreement.

County staff presenter Jennifer Hedinger (presented as Ms. Hedinger) told the court the plan is administered through Transamerica for medical benefits and M&G Insurance Company for prescription benefits, and that the benefit is “fully funded by the retiree.” She said the recommended renewal includes a monthly premium increase of $33.45 effective Jan. 1, 2026.

The court approved the renewal by voice vote after a motion and second.

Why this matters: The decision affects Medicare‑eligible Comal County retirees who participate in the county’s retiree health option; the premium increase will raise monthly costs for those retirees who remain in the plan. County staff said the plan selection balances coverage and ongoing sustainability for retiree health options.

No changes to county contributions were described; staff said the benefit is paid by retirees enrolled in the program.
