Brentwood sets Oct. 23 closing for Dooney Munger property; commission discusses baseline, markers and dock removal

Commission members confirmed the town’s closing date for the Dooney Munger property as Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at the town building and discussed immediate post‑closing steps including a baseline stewardship plan, permanent boundary markers and removal of an unsafe dock.

A commission member said Paul will represent the select board at the closing; commissioners agreed that the commission should provide a backup representative if needed. The meeting record indicates required paperwork (warranty deed and HUD/state documents) are in preparation by town counsel and a title officer.

On management, commissioners discussed conducting a baseline inventory before winter. The property was described as about 75 acres; the commission debated installing permanent corner markers (granite monuments or rebar set in concrete), recording precise coordinates on markers for future surveys, and creating a photographic baseline so markers are not lost to weather or vandalism.

Commissioners also discussed encroachments near the property’s southern boundary and agreed to send a written notice to adjacent property owners informing them the town owns the land and asking that any encroachments be removed. The commission discussed removing a deteriorated dock and asked to consult the highway department about removal and liability; members noted the dock appears to be on private property in some cases and said outreach to owners would be appropriate if removal is needed prior to closing.
