"Staff feels that this property is highly visible from the public right of way along Wall Avenue, and solar panels on the front roof slope are not an appropriate choice for the home or the historic district," staff said.
A motion that implemented staff’s recommendation passed. Commissioners noted that solar technology is evolving and suggested the owner or future applicants could return with alternative products (for example, low‑profile solar shingles) or ground‑mounted systems for further review. The commission’s decision was to deny front‑slope placements (locations R1 and R3 on the submission) while approving rear placements (R2 and R4) and inviting the property owner to propose different technologies or locations for future consideration.
