Bourbon County commissioners approved a request from public works on Oct. 6 to purchase a walking-floor trailer for the county landfill for approximately $85,000 so the department can maintain its daily hauling schedule to Allen County.
Public Works representatives said the county hauls municipal solid waste to Allen County daily and currently operates two walking-floor trailers plus a third that is being used; one trailer developed a leak in a metal hydraulic line and must be taken out of service for repair. A third trailer would let the county rotate equipment for repairs and cover heavier demand during holidays.
The department said the landfill currently is generating higher revenue — about $700,000 annually — compared with earlier years, and the purchase would be paid from landfill funds, including FEMA reimbursements expected to arrive. Public Works confirmed funds are available now and that the replacement is not expected to require a separate county advance.
A motion to grant public works purchasing authority for the walking-floor trailer at $85,000 passed by voice vote with commissioners indicating “aye.”
