The Sawyer County Airport report to the Public Works Committee covered recent grounds work, winter planning and a delay in delivery of new snow‑removal equipment tied to Buy American waiver processing.
Airport manager Mister Leslie told the committee crews have focused on brushing upland areas and the south end of the field and that mowing has continued into October. "I've had several people fly in and out and make comments that it looks nicer on the South End than it ever has before," Leslie said.
Leslie said the airport was awarded grant funding for new snow‑removal equipment but that delivery is delayed because several airports in the same bid package need waivers from Buy American standards. If waivers are approved, contracts would be signed and equipment delivery would follow a roughly 10‑month lead time, putting earliest receipt at next winter. He said existing equipment will be kept as backups and that Shane Scribe remains under contract for winter plowing.
Leslie also reported that FBO contract work is near completion and that he will attend an aviation conference for continuing education. He said routine activity levels are up, noting several jets and prop aircraft recently and a helicopter conducting power‑line inspections.
No committee action was taken; airport staff described operational plans and ongoing procurement steps and said they will return with updates as waivers and contracts proceed.
