Sandy Springs is reconstructing an 84-inch stormwater pipe beneath West Spalding Drive after a resident reported a small sinkhole that prompted an inspection, City staff said.
City staff said the inspection found a buckling corrugated-metal pipe believed to be more than 50 years old. The project will replace that 84-inch pipe with concrete and also replace a smaller nearby pipe to stabilize the roadway and reduce future risk to the right of way.
Crews will keep one lane open for traffic during construction hours, and the work is expected to take about three months, City staff said. The reconstruction began after the resident’s report was routed through the Sandy Springs call center, which dispatched the stormwater team to investigate.
The City advised residents to follow Sandy Springs social media channels for updates and said the Sandy Springs call center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (770) 730-5600 for reports or questions about the project.
No formal vote or legislative action was reported in the transcript; the work described is an operational construction project under City staff direction.
